Our supporting frameworks

Our core area of specialised dispute resolution, coaching and counselling practice are deeply informed be the following frameworks:

Process Work

Individuals and organisations have a usual way of being that is familiar and well known, and they become disturbed when this usual way of being no longer serves them well; when change and growth is required. The disturbance can create “edge behaviour”, which occurs in response to the thoughts, beliefs, structures and values, which seek to hold us to our primary identity.

Mindfulness

Momentum incorporates mindfulness practices to help individuals understand and work with the reactivity that comes with conflict and other disturbances. By bringing in acceptance of all of our feelings without judgment, negative emotions are quelled and spaciousness is fostered. This enables choices to be identified and thus, a sense of greater personal control.

Neurosciences

“The discovery of neuroplasticity, that our thoughts can change the structure and function of our brains, even into old age, is the most important breakthrough in our understanding of the brain in four hundred years” (Norman Doidge MD)

The theory in short is that changes can be made to the brain by strengthening neural pathways. This can be achieved simply through where the mind places it’s focus, new experiences or the way we think about things, and it can be within our control.

Narrative Coaching™

Narrative Coaching™ recognises that what we tell ourselves, the stories we hold, determines how we experience the world, and for change to be realised, a new story needs to be written. Narrative Coaching works with these narrative structures.

Power Intelligence®

Power Intelligence®, is a term coined by world leading researcher and practitioner, Julie Diamond, PhD. Her research and work with leaders focuses on the problems of power – that the higher up the ladder you go, the less feedback you receive, and the increasing blindness there is to how you impact others and how you are perceived; also the ways power is expressed and how it impacts culture, decision making, and leadership ability.

Somatic Awareness

Somatics describes any practice that uses the mind-body connection to help survey one’s internal self and listen to the signals the body sends about areas of pain, discomfort, anxiety, fear or imbalance. Momentum’s Consultants trust the body’s “knowing” and work with individuals to help them access body intelligence via breath, movement and meditative practices. This way of working with people is grounded in the Consultants’ daily yoga and meditation practice.
